Interesting Statistics

1 in 4 doctors use some form of electronic health records (EHR).
Fewer than 1 in 10 doctors use EHR in most effective way.
13% of hospitals and 28% of physicians have some level of EHR.
Half of all doctors in US practice alone or with one other doctor. This segment is less likely to use EHR.
More than 90% of nation’s health care transactions still occur via phone, fax or an exchange of paper. Technology could cut the nation’s $1.6 trillion-a-year health care bill by at least 10%.
A study showed transcription costs would decrease by 28%, adverse drug events would be reduced by 34%, and laboratory charges could be lowered by 8.8% if electronic medical records were implemented in health care (Want, et al., 2003).
Funding for ‘health informatics’ began nearly two generations ago using punch cards, etc.
