Geoffrey Brown, Ph.D.
Sr. VP/Chief Information Officer IT
INOVA Health System
As Vice President and Chief Information Officer of INOVA Health System,
Geoffrey Brown, Ph.D. is responsible for working with physicians and clinical
staff to maximize the benefits of existing and emerging technology for the
benefit of Inova’s patients. In addition, he oversees a staff of network
specialists who support the system’s 13,000 employees working throughout
Inova’s network of hospitals, freestanding emergency rooms, urgent care
centers, nursing homes and business offices.
Dr. Brown comes to Inova with 32 years of experience in information technology,
with nearly half that time spent working in the health care sector. Since 2003,
he served as vice president and chief information officer for Atlanta’s Grady
Health System – one of the largest public health systems in the Southeast.
Prior to that, he was an associate hospital administrator at Tenet Health
System’s South Fulton Medical Center, and before that, spent eight years as
vice president and CIO of Tenet’s Atlanta Medical Center.
Dr. Brown earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Business Administration from
Wyoming’s Kennedy-Western University in 1990 and a master’s degree in Business
Administration from the same university. In addition, Dr. Brown earned an
American Management Association Certificate in management from Oglethorpe
University in Atlanta, GA in 1986.
Inova Health System is a not-for-profit health care system based in Northern
Virginia that consists of hospitals and other health services including
emergency and urgent care centers, home care, nursing homes, mental health and
blood donor services, and wellness classes. Governed by a voluntary board of
community members, Inova’s mission is to provide quality care and improve the
health of the diverse communities we serve.
