Gregory Bentz, M.D., Ph.D.
Chief Medical Officer
INOVA Loudon Hospital
Formerly private practice
Gregory Bentz, M.D., Ph.D. left his private practice of sixteen years in
Sterling, Virginia to assume the position of Chief Medical Officer of Inova
Loudon Hospital. Dr. Bentz worked at the hospital in case management as a
physician advisor while seeing his own patients mornings and evenings.
An Ohio native, Dr. Bentz received his bachelor's degree in biology from
Allegheny College in Pennsylvania in 1967. Dr. Bentz returned to Ohio after
graduation to attend graduate school at Kent State University. He received his
master’s in biology with a focus on botany in 1969. Following three years in
the military, Dr. Bentz moved to Pennsylvania and received his doctorate in
biology from the University of Pittsburgh, studying vertebrate morphology, the
study of the structure and function of animals with backbones.
In 1976, Dr. Bentz moved to Washington, D.C. doing his post-doctoral work at
the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History where he conducted research
for the institution. Two years later, he held the post of a professor at Mount
Vernon College in the District of Columbia, a women’s college that has since
been acquired by George Washington University. In 1985 Dr. Bentz was chair of
the college's math and science department where he received his tenure. He was
later promoted to associate professor.
Dr. Bentz decided on a career change and looked into medical schools. He
studied at Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad in Juarez, just across the border
from El Paso, Texas. Upon returning to Virginia, Dr. Bentz did his residency in
family medicine at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk. In
1991, Dr. Bentz moved to Northern Virginia and set up his private practice in
Sterling.
Dr. Bentz and his wife currently reside in Virginia. The license plate on his
car reads 3XY2XX, in honor of his three sons and two daughters.
